Things to know about ASI’s New Chief for APAC Region

In an announcement made by Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI), Rene Buehlmann has been chosen as the new Chief to lead the Asian Pacific region. The former Chief Hugh Young had a vital role in building a solid foundation for the APAC region & will continue his journey within the Asian Pacific region as he has agreed to stay as Chairman Asia.

Buehlmann’s Past Experience and Journey

  • Buehlmann does have more than 30 years of experience in global wealth, asset management, financial market, and corporate banking.
  • Buehlmann has worked for 29 years with UBS as the Head of asset management for the Asia Pacific region and the Global Head of the wholesale client.
  • Took UBS’s regional operations across 7 countries.
  • Managed the global wholesale client business for UBS.

Why Rene Buehlmann has been chosen as the new Chief?

Rene will start to serve as the new Chief for ASI’s APAC region from 1st of March 2021 and will join the executive leadership team, reporting to the Chief executive of Standard Life Aberdeen Stephen Bird. As per the ASI, Rene will be responsible for taking the firm’s strategy to the next level & will help to accelerate the overall regional growth.

Rene’s ample experience in wealth & asset management, understanding of client requirements, deep knowledge of investment trends, and previous work record in building strategies will track down the growth.

Future Plans of Hugh Young (ASI’s former chief)

Apart from the new role of Chairman for the Asian region that Young has accepted he will also provide a strategic guideline to Rene Buehlmann & will retain the position of director on fund and UK investment trust boards. 

“I want to thank Young for his enormous contribution to the business over the 35 years. We are delighted that he has agreed to stay as Chairman Asia, his council and straight advice will be invaluable as Rene transitions into the role,” said Stephen Bird.
