Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce a micro-SUV in Rs 4 to 8 lakh bracket with the Concept Future S in the upcoming AutoExpo in Greater Noida in the first week of February.

Maruti Suzuki has already cornered a fourth of the sports utility vehicle market in India, through the new Concept Future S designed by its Indian design team. The company wants to gauge market feedback for buyers in the compact car space to explore a market introduction.

With a six-member design team from Maruti Suzuki, the ConceptFutureS is yet another attempt by the growing engineering strength of Indian R&D. The company has designed the concept along with the designers from HQ, but the design was led out of India based on the specific needs of the Indian market.

According to Mr. C V Raman, Sr ED, Engineering at Maruti Suzuki, the ConceptFutureS is an ‘all-new compact car design language’ that has a presence of an SUV for compact car buyers.

In a statement given in Media, Raman said, “Any vehicle Maruti develops is global in nature. I have observed that even in Europe, SUV kind of vehicles are having great acceptance and same is the case in India.”

He further added, “If you look at the future, the growth is going to come from SUV, as a growing company, we want to be part of it. We wanted to check, how this kind of design will be accepted by Indian customers. It is essentially driven by the needs of India, but it could potentially be a global car.”

This concept is a part of an experimentation design phase. Previously, the company has teased vehicle which has made its way in the market, but this is merely a concept and idea is to get feedback from customers and the company had given a free hand to the designer to design the vehicle.

Raman said, “The increasing preference for UV’s and their bold architecture inspired our design team to study a new character for ‘compact cars’. ConceptFutureS could mark a distinctive shift in how compact cars are shaped and designed in India in the future.”
