The deal ends year-long dispute between two companies

Spotify has finished with its dispute with Warner Music that has stretched out for a year. It has announced that a deal has been signed for global licensing with Warner Chappell. The mutual agreement between the two companies brought an end to litigation that was lingering for a year in Bombay High Court. The case was preventing Spotify to use music from Warner Music in the Indian market.

Warner alleged that Spotify falsely asserted a statutory license in India. A spokesperson from Warner Chappell told the press that the new agreement between the two companies will allow Spotify to use its music in several markets which also include India. This decision was welcomed by the representative of the Spotify.

Indian music streaming market is fairly competitive

It’s not been even a year and Spotify has over a million listeners in India. The music streaming service allows its users to listen to their favourite artists across the globe. The deal will help Spotify enhance its content base and allowing artists from all over the world to connect with their fans.

One of the top music labels filed a case against Spotify for using its intellectual property without its permission in India. The argument is given by the Spotify in the court that it is just using the Indian rule that allows radio stations to play songs from Chappell Music.

Indian music streaming market is fairly competitive as many players are serving the same type of content. That has made it difficult for Spotify to maintain its foothold. As of now, it has around 800,000 users but the little percentage is of paid subscribers. To gain market it has launched an offer which allows user to get the year-long subscription of Spotify for just 699 Indian rupees.
