The deal will enable real-time virtual tourism

The top mobile service provider in Malaysia, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd has joined hands with Malaysia Airports and Panorama Langkawi. The new agreement will enable real-time virtual tourism experience, empowered by Digi 5 technology for the tourists. The demonstration of the new technology was arranged at Langkawi International Airport.

The tourists can have fun watching a 360-degree view of Gunung Machinchang, one of the most popular mountains and tourist spots in the country, with the use of a cable gondola in the virtual reality experimental zone. A newly installed cutting edge camera at Langkawi Skylab middle station made it possible to be live-streamed. This showcase by Digi 5G was a part of 5G demonstration projects that succeeded due to tremendous efforts of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Engaging digital activities to improve tourist experiences

Albern Murtym, CEO of Digi Telecommunications told the press that Langkawi 5G virtual tourism was organized to promote and develop a 5G environment with assistance from business partners. He also said, “We are excited at the possibilities of 5G bringing next-gen virtual tourism to many other local destinations and connect more people to experiences that matter most of them. In partnership with Malaysia Airports and Panorama, we are pleased to bring a piece of Langkawi’s heritage to tourists from the moment they arrive at the airport.”

Ir. Abu Hashim Abdul Rahman, Acting COO at Panorama Langkawi said, “We believe that 5G has the potential to deliver new and engaging digital activities that can improve tourist experiences and enhance the appeal of Langkawi and Malaysia in the eyes of foreign tourists.”
